(plus an extra 1 at the end for the future)
When you decide to take your business marketing efforts online their is a lot to learn. When you hit the search engines for advice it can be a little overwhelming. These are the SEO and Web Design Blogs beginners should follow to get the best advice and learn the most about running a website and social media accounts?
Putting together a list of SEO and Web Design Blogs Beginners should follow is no easy task. There are thousands of blogs out there, including this one, Online Trade Marketing. Every blog has it’s own focus, so I’ve tried to choose a wide selection of topics.
There’s a million ways to keep up with content from your favorite bloggers. The two I use the most; subscribe to receive updates via email and follow on Twitter. For me, these 5 are a must for any new webmaster. There is a lifetime of reading material already published on these blogs.
So get started!!
Especially in our working careers, we have all been a beginner at some point. There’s a first time for everything. Learning how to build, run and promote your website, and your business is no different. Read as much as you can, but be careful. Check out who writes the blog and what they do.
For example, a post written by an agency that does a lot of pay per click work might speak less favorably about SEO.
Some of the content will leave you with more questions than answers but that really is the fun of this business. Web Design, SEO and all the other online disciplines are a constant learning curve, and it’s steepest at the start of the climb. Enjoy…
Top 5 SEO and Web Design Blogs Beginners Should Follow
To be honest, putting Moz top of the list of SEO and Web Design Blogs Beginners Should Follow was a really simple choice. The bread and butter at Moz is their software, that’s what pays the bills. Moz Pro is an excellent tool for analyzing your website, it’s search performance, and that of your competitors.
The Moz Blog
But the knowledge they offer for free is the best on the web. The Moz Blog covers SEO, Link Building, Keyword Research and everything else you can think of. Type into their search bar and I bet you get exactly the answer to your question.
And there’s more. Whiteboard Friday has by now gained legendary status within the SEO community. The brainchild of Moz founder Rand Fishkin (more about Rand Later) Whiteboard Friday is a weekly video series, roughly 10 minutes long that answers every imaginable question about SEO and the online world.
The above taste is a killer episode from January of 2017. It has over 24,000 views. And a little know stat. over 50% of those viewers watch the video all the way to the end. Sky-high figures in any vertical.
A close second is the Yoast SEO Blog. Similar to Moz, their business is in selling their SEO plugins for WordPress (install the free version on your site now!! Why haven’t you done that already??). A little more specialized in the SEO world, the posts are very accessible to readers of any experience level.
Yoast SEO Blog
As with many of these blogs, the founder would have, at one time, written all the posts. Joost de Valk founded Yoast in 2010 but now has one of the largest teams in the sector behind him.
Another thing I would recommend from Yoast is their YouTube Channel. Check out the uploads from their yearly SEO conference, YoastCon. The speakers, from Yoast and guest contributions, are really excellent.
The example above is from the 2017 Conference. A presentation given by Karl Gilis. A new spin on the conference presentation, with a lot of humour, telling everyone what they are doing wrong.
“Our mission is to help you navigate the constantly changing social media jungle.”
Social Media Examiner is probably most famous for their yearly Social Media Marketing Report. It tells the story the year in the world of social media in extensive detail.
They interview over 5000 marketing professionals about how they use social media of all types. With this they paint a total picture, using 70+ charts and graphs, of how marketers use social media to promote the businesses and websites that employ them.
The Social Media Examiner Blog
But the report is not all they do. The blog is highly active, with instructional posts on every aspect of social media for every level of experience. Here are just some examples of their most popular posts;
If you are just starting out in the world of online marketing then chances are that you are using WordPress to build your website.
WP Beginner is a wealth of knowledge. From the very beginning of how to set up your WordPress website, to advanced coding this is the place to go for everything WordPress web-design.
You Tube Channel
Their YouTube Chanel walks through their blog posts is visual form. It takes you through the steps you need for any action; plugins, design, code, SEO and everything in between.
As a digital agency Stone Temple had won many awards including US SEO Agency of the Year. The 2 most well known faces at Stone Temple are Eric Enge, CEO and Mark Traphagen, Senior Director of Brand Evangelism, check them out on Twitter.
They turn out regular posts covering the latest trends in SEO. If you want to keep up with current online events, Stone Temple is the place to go. Many of their blog posts come in the form of interview style videos, check out the one below…
No list of SEO and Web Design Blogs Beginners should follow would be complete without Rand Fishkin. SparkToro is the new home of his blog posts and a very exciting software company to look out for in 2019…
“SparkToro is a new software company from Moz founder, Rand Fishkin. Our mission is to make it easier to discover the websites, blogs, podcasts, social accounts, and publications that reach your audience.”
Last year Rand left Moz. He and his wife are still the majority shareholders, but he no longer works there. Everyone in the SEO community is looking forward to seeing what he does next.
